Mary was diagnosed with diabetes at age 33. While she did not see a cure for diabetes-related vision loss and blindness in her lifetime, her legacy of leadership lives on through our work.
Who We Are
The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision) is rooted in Mary’s journey as an actress, entertainer, dancer, author, and diabetes research advocate.
Mary’s Dream
Driven by her husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine’s dedication to making Mary’s dream of a world without vision loss and blindness from diabetes a reality, we champion and advance diabetes research, providing essential resources and tools to accelerate progress. Though Mary didn’t see a cure in her lifetime, her legacy of research advocacy and commitment to finding cures for diabetes and its complications lives on through our work. Learn more about Mary.
We Foster Cross-Sector Collaboration
Gathering global leaders and innovators from diverse fields, including universities, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, government agencies, tech firms, the entertainment industry, and people and families with diabetes, we focus on fostering cross-sector collaboration, developing critical path research resources and tools, promoting data sharing, and supporting scientific programs to fast-track research to cure vision loss and blindness from diabetes.
