Spring 2025 Workshop
The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative’s virtual workshop, “Developing Novel Endpoints for Diabetic Retinal Disease Based on the Neurovascular Unit”, kicked-off The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative – Collaborative Community on Ophthalmic Innovation “DRD Cure Accelerator” Working Group’s consensus building on endpoints and biomarkers for DRD diagnosis, risk prediction, progression and treatment efficacy assessment. The identification, validation, and further development of these endpoints will concentrate on measures that recognize that DRD affects the entire retinal neurovascular unit and can assess the relationships between retinal structure and function.

Fall 2024 Symposium
Our third annual Symposium, “Curing Vision Loss from Diabetes”, was held on November 12, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This singular event brought together over 175 researchers, clinicians, and key opinion leaders from around the world to address critical research gaps and strengthen global collaboration in the fight to prevent and cure vision loss from diabetic retinal disease. The day featured engaging presentations, thought-provoking panel discussions, and inspiring patient perspectives, showcasing our unifying efforts to drive research progress.

Spring 2024 Workshop
The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative hosted a workshop titled “Data Harmonization, Standardization, and Collaboration for Diabetic Retinal Disease: Accelerating the Development of New Indications, Therapies, and Regulatory Pathways” on May 7, 2024, in Seattle, WA. We extend our gratitude to the more than 60 attendees, who brought together research expertise from industry, academia, government, and non-profit organizations. Collaborative efforts are essential to advancing the search for a cure for vision loss and blindness caused by diabetes. Effectively handling and managing both research and real-world patient data is crucial to achieving this goal.

Fall 2023 Symposium
The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative held its second annual global Symposium, “Advancing Development of New Indications, Therapies, and Regulatory Pathways for Diabetic Retinal Disease”, on World Diabetes Day, November 14, 2023. Over 100 specialists from around the world gathered to delve into the intricacies of Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD), contributing their expertise towards our mission of preserving and restoring vision for millions of people affected by the disease.

Fall 2022 Symposium
On October 25, 2022, the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative hosted its inaugural Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD) Symposium in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This pivotal Symposium, along with subsequent initiatives, represented a significant contribution to addressing the widely recognized necessity for developing innovative methods of diagnosing DRD, evaluating its severity and associated risks, and forecasting the progression rate and treatment responses. This convening also led to the drafting of two clinical study protocols designed to assess a select number of promising measures of visual function and retinal physiology in trials we hope to launch in 2024 in collaboration with the DRCR Retina Network.
